How to Update a WibuKey
Procedure for creating a WibuKey Context File (RTC), requesting an update, and applying the returned Update File (RTU).
Overview
A WibuKey can be updated remotely without physically sending the key to the administrator. The process uses two files: an RTC Context File created from the WibuKey, followed by an RTU Update File returned by the administrator.

Before you begin
- Connect the WibuKey to a Windows PC.
- The PC must already have the WibuKey driver installed.
- The WibuKey Software Protection application must be available. This is normally installed with VRF software that requires the WibuKey.
- Complete the procedure separately for each WibuKey being updated.
Important: The RTC and RTU filenames must match the serial number of the WibuKey. Do not rename the RTC file after it has been created.
1. Create the WibuKey Context File (RTC)

| 2 | Open Control Panel, select Hardware & Sound, then click WibuKey to open the WibuKey Software Protection application. |
| 3 | Click the application icon in the top-left corner of the WibuKey window and select Advanced Mode. |

| 5 | In the Remote Programming Context File section, click Browse and select the folder where the RTC file will be saved. |
| 6 | Enter the WibuKey serial number as the filename, then click Apply to create the RTC file. |
| 7 | Send the RTC file to the WibuKey administrator and request the required update. Do not change the filename. |

2. Apply the WibuKey Update File (RTU)
After the administrator processes the RTC file, they will return an RTU Update File. This file is specific to the WibuKey used to create the original RTC file.

| 5 | Confirm that the RTU filename matches the serial number of the WibuKey. |
| 6 | Click Apply to update the WibuKey. |
| 7 | Select the Contents tab and confirm the WibuKey record has been updated. Check the updated effective date or licence information as applicable. |
Common issues
| Issue | Check |

| WibuKey does not appear in the application | Confirm the WibuKey is inserted correctly and the WibuKey driver is installed on the PC. |
| RTU file will not apply | Confirm the RTU file was generated from the RTC file created by that specific WibuKey and that the serial-number filename matches. |
| More than one WibuKey requires an update | Create and process a separate RTC/RTU file pair for each WibuKey, one at a time. |
Key point: An RTU file is generated from the RTC file supplied for a specific WibuKey. Always make sure the physical WibuKey, RTC file and returned RTU file all correspond to the same serial number.
