VRF-0161 – Touch Panel Controller Software Upgrade

UTY-DTGYZ1 / UTY-DTGGZ1 – software-related startup, ECA export and display faults
Service Bulletin Ref. VRF-0161  |  Issued 6 July 2018
A software malfunction was identified on certain UTY-DTGYZ1 and UTY-DTGGZ1 Touch Panel Controllers. Depending on the symptom and system configuration, the bulletin calls for either a CF card exchange or a software update using USB memory.
Important: The procedures below alter controller software and, for CF-card replacement, may reset the initial settings to the factory-shipment state. Back up the initial settings before exchanging the CF card wherever possible.

1. Reported Failure Symptoms

CaseSymptom
1ECA data cannot be exported when the Touch Panel Controller is used in combination with UTY-PTGXA. Export from the LAN network or USB memory cannot be completed.
2After power is turned on, the controller takes approximately 4–5 minutes to start instead of the usual approximately 60 seconds.
3After power is turned on, the controller freezes on the white screen or AIRSTAGE logo screen.
4Text garbling / garbled characters are displayed.

Parts / media: The bulletin instructs technicians to obtain the latest-version CF card for Step 1 and the approved software-update USB memory for Step 2 from the authorised General/Fujitsu General sales company or distributor.

4. Step 1 – CF Card Exchange

4.1 Back up the initial settings

Replacing the CF card returns the initial settings to the factory-shipment state. The bulletin provides the following backup method, except where the controller is frozen on a white screen after power-up.

  1. Obtain the files gtktp_000001.rpm and uty_dtgy_sp.txt from the authorised support source.
  2. Save gtktp_000001.rpm to a general-purpose USB memory device.
  3. With the controller powered off, insert the USB memory containing gtktp_000001.rpm only into the main unit and turn on the power.
  4. When the update prompt appears, select OK and allow the process to complete.
  5. Remove the USB memory and delete gtktp_000001.rpm.
  6. Save uty_dtgy_sp.txt to the USB memory so that it is the only required backup file present.
  7. Insert the USB memory into the Touch Panel Controller and turn on the power. The initial settings are exported from the original CF card to the USB memory.
Backup caution: The bulletin states that the initial-setting export will not work correctly unless the RPM file used earlier has been deleted from the USB memory. Export completes approximately five minutes after the AIRSTAGE screen appears, and no end message is displayed.

4.2 Exchange the CF card

  1. Turn off the power supply to the Touch Panel Controller.
  2. Replace the existing CF card with the latest-version CF card supplied through the authorised sales company/distributor.

4.3 Import the initial settings

  1. Turn on the power supply and start the Touch Panel Controller.
  2. At the language selection screen, select the required language.
  3. Insert the USB memory containing the exported initial-setting data.
  4. Set the time zone, date and time.
  5. At the password screen, enter NYURYOKU97. The initial settings are then imported automatically from the USB memory.
  6. When the completion screen is displayed, restart the controller as instructed.

4.4 ECA data when the CF card is replaced

Past ECA data remains on the old CF card, but the bulletin states that it cannot be used with the ECA Tool until the image file has been repaired.

  • The old CF card is sent to the authorised sales company.
  • The old CF card is read using a CF-card reader and saved as a .ddi image file.
  • The image file is repaired by the sales company / manufacturer process.
  • The repaired image is written back to the old CF card.
  • The repaired old card can then be temporarily returned to site to capture historical ECA data.
  • ECA data generated while the CF card is being exchanged is not recorded.
  • After historical data capture, the old card is returned and initialised; the updated CF card is then reinstalled at site.

5. Step 2 – Software Update Using USB Memory

  1. Obtain the approved USB memory for software update from the authorised General/Fujitsu General distributor or sales company.
  2. With the controller powered off, insert the USB memory into the Touch Panel Controller.
  3. Turn on the power supply.
  4. When the update prompt appears, select OK.
  5. Wait for the software update to complete.
  6. When the success message is displayed, press Close and remove the USB memory.
Result: After Close is pressed and the USB memory is unplugged, the Touch Panel Controller restarts automatically. The software is updated while the existing initial settings are inherited, so reconfiguration is not required for the USB-only update route.
